MY FIRST EASTER!!!
wow... what an incredible and blessed weekend. this past weekend marked the first Good Friday and Easter Sunday for me as a Christian. and my GOD was it inspiring and moving. the weekend started with the usual friday night bible study with the kids. we made "witness bracelets" and just talked about the meaning of Good Friday and what Easter is really about... on that topic, how did Easter end up getting tied in with bunnies and pastel colored eggs? how does that have anything to do with Jesus? anyways i digress...
a bunch of us started a 30hour fast which began friday night at midnight and was to continue on until we would breakfast together after sunrise service on sunday morning. at first i thought, 30hours, piece of cake... damn, i want some cake. frek. and that is pretty much how my fasting went... all 30hours... saturday was a longgggg day, needless to say. at first, i was reluctant to go to the sunrise service, but started to reflect on the importance of it. we also had a short service saturday night. there were only about 15 of us there, but it was a very moving and Godfilled time of prayer, reflection...
waking up sunday morning at 5am was no easy task. butttt i somehow managed and am so grateful that i did. pseong gave a short albeit memorable message during sunrise service. which brings us to the title of this post, father/son relationships. he began by talking about how he could never watch movies dealing with father/son relationships because it just really messes with him (i.e. pursuit of happiness). he started telling a story of his eldest son and his first visit to the dentist's office. he recalls how good of a sport his son was being with his first dental checkup, and how excited he was. after the checkup the dentists told him that his son had 2 cavities and they would need to schedule a time to come in to get it drilled and filled. his son was still excited the next time they came into the dentist's office, as the dentist himself was very good at making his patients, especially the younger ones, feel very comfortable. they gave his son some novocaine and began the procedure of excavating the cavities, and he remembered seeing his son's fists clench up into tiny balls, and tears began to stream down his eyes... pseong was hardly able to contain himself recalling this memory of his son and had to pause. he couldn't bare to watch and had to leave the room as they continued to work on his son.
this is just a small glimpse of the kind of love that God has for us, as His children. that He had to watch his only begotten son get brutally tortured and crucified... how difficult that must have been, but how great and awesome that love is. on this day and everyday forth, all glory be to You, heavenly father. in loving memory of your only son, Christ Jesus, whom you sent to die on behalf of all us weary sinners...
on that note, i shall try and brighten the mood a bit and will sign off with another youtube clip of this amazing taiwanese kid singing his rendition of whitney houston's "i will always love you."
enjoy bloggers!
